PLEASE NOTE: This is not aimed at everyone -= there still are some great people in the community who I hang out with.
Just thought I would point this out for the endless line of MORONS who realise it is for them and tell everyone, especially those not on the internet, that I also aimed it at them. A common thing, given they can't ever accept the crap that they cause and that they could actually be at fault, even though, deep down in that supposed heart, THEY KNOW THEY ARE!

We have come to the end of the road for 'Manila Downunder Mk1', the final post on a website that has seen 11746 hits in the year and a half it has operated.

HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE: The site will be relaunched at this same URL at the start of August as a completely redesigned idea. So for our regular readers please do not despair, just look forward to a whole new concept, free of the bastards of the community here.
This original 'Manila-Downunder' site will remain (at a differing URL-which will be advised) as a warning to anyone else stupid enough to get themselves involved in a group situation here, anyone who may be unaware of the life, happiness and spirit sucking conditions that will leave you a shattered and empty soul for a very long time, quite possibly forever.

Yesterday I was told by a former member of the barkada that I now have an 'attitude problem'.
They are indeed correct, but what all seem to not wish to acknowledge is how that attitude problem came about.
Why do they refuse to acknowledge?
Interesting you should ask. I never used to be this way, I used to try to help where possible and loved to be a part of this life sucking community, indeed I still love the people in the Philippines itself which, in itself, should speak loud for the people around here.

Hypocrisy (noun)- a pretense of having virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc, that one does not really possess.

* Just because you have a disagreement doesn't mean you should take it out on people around the other person.
* I am sorry, I can't accept such morally wrong actions.
* I will not go anywhere they are because I don't like them.
* All problems should be discussed together and not kept to ones self.
* I am open and forthright with my views.

Yet still there seems to be a universal horror when someone is confronted about it - an amazement that you would even consider them to be doing something wrong - that you would even bloody dare to stop them on their crusade of complete crap.
I can see them now, reading this, wondering what they all did wrong to deserve this sort of thought.

I was a complete person after my 2004 trip to the Philippines, I was happy and looking to get involved and help a community that looked like fun.
Five years later I have a supposed attitude problem, can't even stand to be involved with anyone in Australia, suffer depression a dread the miserable downer feeling that comes with having to see many of the worse examples in a local street or shopping centre.

You do the maths - IT IS YOU PEOPLE WHO CAUSED ME TO BE THIS WAY.

SO DON'T EVEN DARE TO BLOODY WHINGE ABOUT IN
THAT PATHETIC WAY SO MANY SEEM TO DO!

What do people honestly expect?
You spread lies, hate and gossip, most of it being a reflection on the communities thoughts about you, and you expect nothing to happen.
You allow shear ignorance to guide you decisions - I mean, god knows, there can't be two sides to a story. That would just be logical and who really has time for logic?
Lets face it, the more pathetic examples will be ringing people everywhere to spread lies about this posting as well. Why, because the lack of life so many accuse others of having, is actually YOURS!

It is this pathetic attitude that reflects badly on people back home.
But you don't give a donkey poop about them.
It is you who made it - you who are above these people - you who can look after your own self interest.
How many have even given to some society back home - taken time to care about a charity - given to the less fortunate who remain (EXCLUDING FAMILY)?

LETS HAVE A REALITY CHECK FOR ONE MOMENT: Material things matter as little here as they did back there - Material things INCREDIBLY do not make you a better, or more superior person.
The only thing that makes you superior is actions, this can make you superior in two ways, a superior human, or a SUPERIOR JERK!

So where am I today, what does a hollow shell of a man do, one that has virtually been raped and violated by a community and left for dead? One who feels he has been bent over, reamed with a 12 inch cucumber and left in a shattered heap, to die for all they care?
Please - whatever you do, don't mention all the things you did. The guilt starts to set in and your told that your not suppose to bring THAT up because you are supposed to do it out of the goodness of your heart.
BULLSHIT, that is just another way to try to remove any possible guilt, any possible acknowledgment of any wrong doing!
I have met an endless throng of people who have been involved, used, chewed up and spat out a very disenchanted person, with a very sad view on their experience and a true desire never to get involved again. Most of these are people from the same place the offenders came from.

So next time anyone chooses to whinge about me, to moan about my attitude, to bitch about anyone else.
LOOK IN THE MIRROR!
Because it was likely your part in the community that has destroyed that which I used to be. Then all of you run along and continue to do it, because that is what you do, that is all you know and, THAT IS ALL ANYONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT.

Book claims Jacko 'dressed as woman for gay sex'

A sensational new book claims Michael Jackson had a string of gay lovers and dressed as a woman to leave his home to meet men.

Biographer Ian Halperin claims "virtually everybody" in Jackson's inner circle knew he was gay.

Halperin told The Sun newspaper in Britain how he interviewed two of Jackson's alleged male lovers, with one claiming the pop star would sneak out of his home dressed as a woman for late night rendezvous.

One allegedly told Halperin: "The very first time he had sex with me he said 'The King of Pop's going to lick your lollipop'. I still laugh thinking about that."

Halperin says he interviewed many people for his book, Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson, and was repeatedly told the pop star was gay.

"Virtually everybody has told me," the author told the newspaper.

"Even those who are his most ardent defenders, people who maintain he is innocent of the molestation charges, insist that he is homosexually inclined."

One unnamed source is quoted in Halperin's book as saying Jackson's lovers included a waiter, aspiring actor and construction worker.

"Michael would leave the house in disguise, often dressed as a woman, and would go to meet his boyfriend at a motel that was one of (Las) Vegas's grungiest dives," the source said.

"Michael was broke. He struggled to put food on the table for his children. It was all he could afford then."

Jackson had repeatedly denied being gay before his sudden death in late June.

A former bodyguard who worked with the singer has also claimed that Jackson had a secret girlfriend shortly before his death.

Meanwhile, Jackson's father Joe wants the singer's three children to go on a world tour in 2010.

The Sun said Joe Jackson, who managed a young Michael and his four brothers in the Jackson Five, had approached Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II.

But some Jackson family members are outraged by the idea.

ACCC probing supermarket fuel promotion

The competition watchdog is examining promotions by Coles and Woolworths that offer petrol discounts of up to 40 cents a litre to ensure the supermarket giants are not deliberately attempting to drive competitors out of business.

The promotion is offering motorists who spend more than $300 in one supermarket visit during the next three days a 40 cents a litre petrol discount.

Shoppers who spend $200 or more receive a 25 cents a litre discount, while those who spend $100 or more get a 10 cents a litre discount.

The discount offer needs to be taken up in the next four weeks.

ACCC Petrol Commissioner Joe Dimasi told AAP the competition watchdog was not suggesting the promotion was not compliant with the Trade Practices Act, but would look at it closely.

"I'm not suggesting for a moment we think there is anything wrong with it, discounts that enable consumers to get lower petrol prices are generally a good thing," he said.

"But having said that, there are provisions in the act to make sure there is nothing wrong with the promotion, and we will have a look at it.

Mr Dimasi said the ACCC would scrutinise the promotion to ensure it was not being used "in a predatory way to drive competitors out of business".

"If we've got two supermarket chains competing to get people into their stores, providing benefits to consumers on a regular basis, that's well and good," he said.

"So long as it isn't aimed at a particular competitor and done with the aim of driving someone out of business by pricing below cost in a sustained way over a long period of time."

"If we see (the promotion happening) every month, we would have to see what it is doing and what it is trying to do."

Consumer group Choice labelled the promotion a "three-day gimmick with hurdles".

"The hurdles are you have to spend $300 and do it within three days to get the discount," spokesman Christopher Zinn said.

"We want to see competition in terms of price for groceries, not gimmicks that last for three days."

Mr Zinn said he was concerned the supermarket giants would raise grocery prices to fund the promotion.

"How else does this cost subsidy take place?" he said.

It was a difficult thing to prove, Mr Zinn said, with the federal government in June dumping Grocery Choice - a website service tracking supermarket prices.

"This is one of the issues about Grocery Choice. You would have had a record of what the prices were," he said.

"One could follow that much more closely."

Mr Dimasi said if Coles and Woolworths intended on raising grocery prices to fund the petrol promotion, it would not be a breech of the Trade Practices Act.

"They are both businesses that sell both groceries and petrol," he said.

"This is clearly something that will cost them money in the petrol sector.

"Does that push up the price of groceries?

"Well, if it does, there is nothing illegal about it."

While on the surface the latest promotions appear to be an exciting offer, Mr Zinn said alternative options were also attractive.

"You could also go to Aldi, where you might get for $70 what you would at Coles for $100, so you would save $30 there," he said.

"That is something you can do 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"That's what these schemes are all about - you might miss out on better offers."

Shanghai to build version of Jackson's Neverland
AP - Thursday, July 9

BEIJING – China is planning to build its own version of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch on an island near Shanghai, state media said Wednesday.
The Shanghai Morning Post said the first phase of the project on Chongming Island will be completed within a year and will cover 7.2 million square feet (667,000 square meters).
Named after the home of Peter Pan, Neverland Ranch was a Jackson's whimsical retreat _ replete with carnival rides, a coterie of animals, two trains and a Disney-like station.
The total cost of China's version is expected to be around 100 million yuan ($14.6 million). The tribute to Jackson, who died June 25, will include a man-made lake, cinema and a zoo, the Shanghai Morning Post said, citing Qiu Xuefan, vice director of the Wenzhou Chamber of Commerce.
Jackson memorabilia _ bought by auction and other "private channels" _ will be on display, the paper said.
Neverland was valued at $33 million in 2006, according to an accounting firm's report from 2007.
Chongming Island is in the Yangtze river to the north of Shanghai.

Mayon volcano showing signs of increased activity
MANILA - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Sunday said it is studying the possibility of raising the alert level of Mayon Volcano in Albay in the Bicol region after it recently showed signs of increased activity.
PHIVOLCS said it has intensified its monitoring on the activity of Mayon Volcano.
PHIVOLCS confirmed that the crater glow of the volcano has intensified from level one to two which means the glow is visible with the naked eye.
Ed Laguerta, PHIVOLCS resident volcanologist, said the increase in the crater glow means the magma activity inside the volcano has increased.
Aside from the crater glow, Phivolcs has also noted an inflation of the volcano's edifice in the ground deformation survey conducted this June compared to the 12 millimeter deflation recorded in the survey conducted last January. The survey was conducted in Buang Leveling Line in Barangay Buang in Tabaco City.
This also indicate an abnormal activity of the volcano PHIVOLCS said.
Meanwhile for the past 24 hours, PHIVOLCS also said it has recorded four low frequency volcanic earthquake.
Alert level one however is maintained over Mayon volcano and residents and tourists are advised not to enter the seven-kilometer extended danger zone and the six-kilometer permanent danger zone. PHIVOLCS said with the recent abnormal activity of the volcano, a sudden phreatic explosion is possible.
Phreatic eruptions is desribed by US Geological Survey as steam-driven explosions that occur when water beneath the ground or on the surface is heated by magma, lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic deposits (for example, tephra and pyroclastic-flow deposits). USGS says the intense heat of such material (as high as 1,170° C for basaltic lava) may cause water to boil and flash to steam, thereby generating an explosion of steam, water, ash, blocks, and bombs.
PHIVOLCS noted that the alert level can be raised if there is a continuous increase in parameters such as seismic ground deformation and sulfur dioxide emission rate.
Mayon Volcano’s last eruption happened in July until August of 2006 which had the alert level of the volcano raised to four. No casualties were recorded in the last eruption. With reports from Jose Carretero, ABS-CBN Bicol and dzMM

A SAUCY TRIP REPORT - PART 3

Flamin time zones, no matter how tired you are when you go to bed, you still seem to wake up at the usual time your sorry butt rises back home. For us this was 4am and, despite a urgent desire to fall asleep again, we just laid there talking about what we would do during the day.

As the sun started to rise above Manila, we had showers and went for a walk across Ermita to the new Oceanarium, the Manila Hotel and back across Rizal Park checking out the usual array of hornbags and jeepneys along the way.

Talking about hornbags, at a park to the west of Rizel (on Roxas Boulevard) they seem to have a huge group exercise session to loud music on weekends. All come along wearing their respective exercise wear and the location becomes a photographing perverts paradise.
Should you not be a pervert, the motion of the exercisers all in unison also makes for a very interesting photograph.
On the bay outside the Manila Hotel is there passenger ship, an older Italian liner used as an extension to the hotel and a nearby landing where the first water plane from America to the Philippines landed. I can’t remember the year, but did obtain photographs of the plaque.
Effrell, Bolinday and that maganda one yet again at Tagaytay.

A brief session of Jeepzaling around Rizal Park, breakfast at Jollibee, spending at Robinsons Ermita, adding to the Tanduay bottle collection, and we were soon back at the Mabini Mansion waiting for Annabelle to turn up.
It was then off to Chowking for lunch, a chinese food type fast food chain than never quite seem to be able to get your order correct, a bit like Sylvania McDonalds I suppose. Today, yet again, it was a matter of putting ice in my drink after being told not to, then trying to just remove the ice without giving me a fresh one.

Following lunch we hit on a awesome Manila rort that gives visitors, especially those of a western appearance, beautiful aerial views of Manila from 28 floors up. No real effort is needed, just walk past a new block of condos and make sure the people there see you.
These agents virtually beg you to come in for a look and will take you right to the top in an effort to sell you their best offering. You are assured of at least 30-40 minutes of unparalleled views of this beautiful city, all for ZERO cost. Where else in the Philippines do such fantastic tourist attraction attract a negative charge?
Another real estate agent has offered to drive us up to Antipolo City to view some houses there, they will even pick us up from QC. I look forward to this free tour as I have always wanted to see Antipolo.

Just remember to tell them at the end that you have to discuss it with your wife, girlfriend, mistress, kids or bandage slave – then walk on to your next tour.
But today’s freebie soon came to an end with Ana’s brother, coming to, supposedly, pick up a friend of ours at the hotel.
The afternoon and evening was subsequently spent visiting Ana’s relos living in the Payatas area, as well as meeting the 30 kids born since the last visit, before heading back to Mabini Mansion for our last night there.

Ahhhhhhh yes, the mysterious Kenneth (aka: Mr Bean). Alway crying, but loved his chocolate.

Another early morning start on the day of our moving to Quezon City. Most of our luggage had been dumped in QC the night before, so only a camera bag and small case needing to be carried.
After much begging, Ning allowed this transfer to go via Tutuban station. Members of the Philippine chapter of the ‘Railways and Industrial Heritage Society Phils. Inc’ were there putting the final touches to the BUDA display.

BUDA 22 is the first restoration project of the 'Railways and Industrial Heritage Society Phils. Inc' of which I was associated. Karel and his band of workers have obviously done a remarkable to get this looking like it does today. The last time I inspected it, in 2007, it was a rotten old wreck at Caloocan workshop.

Talking of Caloocan Workshop, I gave the manager a copy of our Australian Locomotion book as thanks for his kindness.

It was here I met our local president Jaime, secretary Karel (who I knew from my last trip), my dear diesel friend Alberto and a few other members. Also had the absolute pleasure of meeting Caloocan chief engineer Mr Bismonte.
An inspection of the yard was done, but since this was all dribbly foamer related it is included in a separate report.

You are never lonely when railfanning in the Philippines :-) My friend Karel is seen here while we were, trying, to check out boxcar numbers :-) Patience for a few of the kids, the last four remaining to the end, when I pulled out my large pile of change and let them go for it like seagulls. Great to see them so happy.

While we looked around, Ning headed on to Payatas via public transport, with Jaime kindly dropping me home later in the night.

Couple tried to abduct girls: police

Two young girls were grabbed while playing in a Sydney schoolyard in a failed abduction attempt, police say.

The girls, both aged seven, were in in a playground at Mascot Public School on King Street , Mascot, when they were approached by a man and woman about 11.30am on Friday.

"The girls allege the man grabbed the pair, but they managed to break away and ran to tell a teacher," police said in a statement.

"One of the girls has told investigators the man and woman got into a van which was parked nearby and drove away."

The van is described as white, with several windows and graphics of orange flames near the wheels.

The man is said to be aged in his 40s, with short dark hair and wearing dark jeans and a yellow T-shirt.

The woman is about 30, with long blonde hair.

She wore black jeans and a white T-shirt.

Police are warning parents around the Mascot area to take particular care of their children and to explain the dangers of being approached by a stranger.

Student safety was of paramount concern at Mascot Public School, an Education and Training spokesman said.

"Mascot Public School has a rolling stranger danger/safety to and from school program in terms of messages for students and parents," he said in a statement.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police

JULY 4TH - A DAY OF CELEBRATIONS

Today is a big day for at least three members of our barkada and I wish to extend congratulations to you all.

The asawa Ning has her big happy birthday today.

In typical Filipina fashion, well for most of them, she still looks 20 years younger than she is.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NING

We will be spending it with (real) Filipino friends and family.

It will be interesting to see how many of her supposed friends she has done so much for will actually ring to wish her the best. I'm guessing very VERY few.

Howdee,
Sadly I don't have my tour report on me today, so I am going to skip ahead to the photos I had planned to show when we got to the Tanduay part of the trip.
We stopped in at the Tanduay factory while enroute to Lucena and had a great time checking out where our holy water comes from.

Thanks to the management and staff of Tanduay for allowing me a look through the plant of my favourite drop, it was the logical step after so many years collecting Tanduay souveniers.

Its enough to arouse a Tanduay collector.
In the main reception of the factory is tis display of all products made by Tanduay, including some superceeded labels which were all duly photographed (since I wasn't allowed to buy them) :-)

One had to excercise amazing personal restraint on entering the factory.

Final packing before sending off to a grateful nation!

It was about now I enquired how much it would cost to buy this machine :-)

Down the bottom the red crates mark the start of it all with thousands of empty bottles. It goes from here to the end of the factory and back to where the guys are standing, this being where it is finally packed.

PHILIPPINES 2009 - A SAUCY TRIP REPORT

PART 2

23-5-2009 Saturday

“No more sleeps – were going today. By tonight I will be munching on Jollibee in Manila.”

Arben and my dear little neice Tin Tin!

Ana-just shakes here head, none of this being particularly exciting. She just wants to see her parents, as for Jollibee, rides on jeepneys etc, well she has done it most of her life and really does not care for any of it. Actually my obsession with such is regarded as some kind of deformity.

Ning stands beside the former Italian ship that was purchased by the

Manila Hotel in order to expand their rooms.

I am told it is now up for sale.

The dock directly behind her is where the first ever PANAM water plane from the USA to the Philippines docked after landing in Manila Bay!

If it wasn’t for her family living here, I may never have even made the first trip way back in 99, let alone the three trips since.

Possibly the most fun part of the trip over was the immense secrecy. Nobody knew about it, certainly none of her family in the Philippines. They did know I was thinking about coming over and there was some shades of suspicion when they were asked to go to Mabini Mansion to pick someone up, however it was never considered that Ana would be accompanying me.

All Pinays are cute, with a few very hideous exceptions around our area, and this cousin (I think) was no exception. Also very good to talk to.

Despite what I considered an early arrival at the airport, our arses hit the ground at the sight of a massive queue all-waiting to be served. The usual loud chatter echoed around the surrounding area, and I was left to endure the inane ranting of some elderly Aussie guy who’s favourite topic was plane crashes.

What is it with people choosing moments of plane travel to discuss our possible doom should all screw up and our next land destination arriving sooner than expected. Honestly people, shut **** up!

The Family - Well part of it anyway.

Thankfully a couple of post flight Tanduays made the check in process far less stressful than is usually the case and soon enough we were in the departure lounge receiving the great news that our plane will be an hour late due to electrical problems………

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!

Short of ‘the wings fell off’, I can’t think of much else I wish to hear about a jet I am about to hop on board. Heck, I mean electrical is pretty much everything on an Airbus, indeed nearly all aircraft.

Sadly the multi billion dollar making Macquarie Bank were unable to afford to install more than three free internet stations in the lounge or, as it transpired, to supply keyboards with letters that are still visible. Still I managed to fumble my way through a email or two on one that became available moments before we had to board.

The last event of any interest before our departure from the hollow excuse of a country was a Singapore Airlines paging for a ‘Mr Cock Soon Tan’ which had more than a few of the toilet users in a frenzy of laughter.

Finally we are able to seat our butts within the aircraft, RP-3337 for the dribbly plane gunzels, and prepare ourselves for the exciting moment of departure and subsequent brain numbing eight-hour ‘cattle class’ journey ahead.

After surveying the area for items to pinch, ahhmmmm, souvenirS for preservation, its time to pull out a foamer magazine to pass the time until the Tanduay and food comes on tap. Last trip they never gave me any, first selling me it was to early, then to late. Bloody kuriput (tight-arse) airline staff, its not as if they were paying for it out of their wages.

Lunch was an awesome caldarita dish, washed down with a Tanduay than the extremely maganda (beautiful) Stephanie eventually brought for me.

Following lunch the stewardesses all seemed to go into hiding, either sick of whinging customers, or having a nookie down in the galley. I suppose most of the guys were picturing the later while, sadly, the former is more likely true.

With only two hours to go and only one Tanduay (a awesome Filipino rum, they seem to spell it rhum, for the uninitiated) closer to paying off the airfare, I find myself heading to the galley in search of life.

Here I found one of the male flight attendants busying himself with whatever they do in the galley. Putting on my most pathetic Aussie face, I beg him for some of that wonderful Tanduay product.

A lovely guy, obviously still not destroyed by western culture, he enquires about how many I want. Upon saying one, he returns with “two it is”. Then he asks how many are with me, when I again respond with just my wife and I, suddenly I get “OK four drinks it is”.

Obviously being a nice guy, he half fills each of the four glasses with thew quality rum and then fills the balance with coke (cola, not the powdery drug stuff) and sends me on my way with a smile.

This made them exceedingly strong for my mild tastes and I found myself requesting more cola from the female attendants in an effort to sneakily water it down.

Ultimately I can’t remember much more of the flight, other than getting a few souvenirs, one even paid for, and hobbling off the plane and into excessive heat.

RP-3335 and an unidentified PAL B747 were also in the NAIA terminal.

Our society meets up with some 'Philippine National Railway' managers at Tayuman.

So far, through our charity raising efforts in Australia, we have been able to achieve much.

Soon enough we were collecting our endless piles of crap that was cast up[on us by relatives, a tradition that any guy married to a Filipina will be able to identify with. YES admit it, you know what I am talking about, I bet you a both nodding and shaking your head while reading this.

A pre-arranged shuttle was there to take us to Mabini Mansion for two nights. Usually members of Ning’s family would be there eagerly awaiting our arrival, and subsequent presents, but as this was all a big surprise we were having to fend for ourselves.

Mabini Mansion is a nice little air-conditioned oasis on busy Mabini Street in Ermita, situated very close to Rizal Park, Rizal Monument and a heap of beggars and girlies looking for some sort of fun.

We had earlier arranged for my lovely cousin Annabelle to go to the hotel, under the pretext of meeting my friend Bill who had something to give her. She turned up about 30 minutes after we had checked in and after the surprise and subsequent cuddles, where else would we go but Jollibee for an Aloha burger, cardboard flavoured fries and the first of many cokes that arrived with ice, despite requesting none.

A big had been completed and soon it was time to head back to Mabini Mansion where the A/C had been cranked up and start snoring till morning.

Found this cat at Tayuman yard and, well, I just couldn't resist.

Was going to do part two of my trip report today, but the shock death of Michael Jackson seems to make that a bit wrong, especially as I was a great fan of his back in his 'pre-weirdo' days.

Love him or hate him, now days I am still a bit of a fan, but did have concerns, he has made a huge mark on the world and there will no doubt be millions of very sad fans today, even in the Philippines where he was also very popular.

Apparently fans from around the world are already doing what they can to get to the USA in order to pay their respects to the guy often refered to as 'The King Of Pop'.
His official website appears to have been taken offline, but more details about his life can be found on Wikipedia while the Manila Bulletin had THIS to say!

Certainly there will be much coverage of this and his life in the weeks to come.

Regardless of your thoughts - it is a big loss.

PHILIPPINE 2009 – A SAUCY TRIP REPORT

PT1

I love this shot, I was standing on a flower box when this little boy

approached me from below.

Turned out to be the best shot I got on the brand new Canon EOD digital before it conked out.Bloody digital trash.....

It was one of those quick last minute decisions, a random look on travel.com.au revealed airfares at prices that really could not be ignored. We are not talking about one off those pathetic 10% off fares; this was $645, down from the usual costs that hover on the far side of a grand, which is Aussie for $1000.

Big buggars hey!

The next 24 hours were spent in negotiation with ‘She who must be obeyed’, seeking permission to book the fares and thus relieve ourselves of the misery, boredom and evil in our local community in Sydney town.

My reasons for so urgently wanting to return were two fold; of course there was the desire to meet the members of our railway society based in Manila. These guys were terrific and are doing a terrific job over there. I inspected their recently restored trackcar (BUDA car) that is now on display at Tutuban station, as well as the extended photo wall that joins it.

They have so many plans and I feel quite honoured to be a part of it, even though I am eight hours away. Despite the distance, it makes me proud to be able to help my second country, while so many who were born there and moved here, seem not to care less.

Every weekend a sea of hornbags converge on Rizal Park for excercise to loud rock music. It worth a visit, not only for the loud music, but also the great atmosphere.

The other reason I wished so much to return was to see Filipino people back home. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that I have been developing a big grudge towards them, thank mostly to the efforts of vermin in our local community.

This taxi caught me by surprise and I had to do a sprint to photograph it. Why the fuss? I mean these things are all over the place. A closer look will reveal the company name which is the same as my dear little estranged god-son.

Daily hurt, backstabbing and betrayal finally becomes too much and your own self-defence system soon has you putting up walls, becoming negative and ensures a growing dislike for everyone in that group of people.

Only returning to the Philippines, where people were still truly Filipino and not corrupted by Australian lifestyle, would solve this dilemma, would return me to where my mind once was, would remind me of why I fell in love with the country in the first place.

The old Fuji S5600 still manages to put out the odd ball tearer or two. These two eepneys are by far the best I have ever taken, especially in the area of lighting and colour. Taken on TM Kalaw in Ermita, I tried to find the maroon jeep again, with no success. Still, walang problema, this one is going up on the kitchen wall.

Despite the pain and negativity, I again found myself doing the usual anticipation things of counting days and marking activities as ‘the last time I will be doing this before I go away’. Even on the day, the anticipation had me egging Ana on to get to the airport as early as possible.
Much time was passed organising all the events I had planned and the people I had to meet.

Soon we would be at the airport...................................

Time to enjoy the holiday - a holiday that proved to be the turning point for me, the holiday that made the attitude changes I needed and to cast away the dead weight of unappreciative people back home.

As I type this I am half way through my holiday and I feel a huge weight lifted from my shoulders, with a positive outlook and plans to be rid of those who don't qualify in the friendship test as soon as I return.

Liberated? You yes, very much so. Things look so much brighter, many thanks to a ceremonial funeral yesterday for these past people in my life.

Rest in NO peace!

~~ PRINCESS'S SNOWY MOUNTAIN HOLIDAY ~~

Feeling a little bit peeved that we racked off to the Philippines and left her back home, Princess headed off to the Snowy Mountains for a weekend of adventure.

She is still very tired, having spent most of the weekend frollicking with snowbunnies, so she chucked me a couple of photos from the trip

to share with you all.

Anyway, I will leave her to share her story.

Woof, it was a long barking flight from Sydney to Canberra for the

start of my trip.

Regardless of my having enough money for first class, those Jetstar bastards locked me in a box and put me at the bottom of the plane.

Here is an aerial shot daddy prepared earlier while returning from the Philippines!

The view from our bedroom window was enough to give the average Labrador male a red rocket. Sadly I was unable to find any at the time, so made do looking out the windows, wagging my now erect tail and slobbering all over the motel drapes.

Before I left, daddy advised to take protection and go on the prowl for snow bunnies, afterall, what happens in Thredbo, stays in Thredbo.

After much searching I found the snowbunny below.

What a night was had, never in my canine life could I have thought I would experience such devine pleasure, such lust, feelings I can't even imagine, and just because she has a fresher taste than the rodents I eat back home.

Oh yes, I did listen dad, I put on that jumper to protect me from the elements. But what were those strange flavourless chewies that you left in my bag?

This strange creature kept interupting my sleep, knocking on the door and begging to spend the night with me.

I called the police and had her quickly removed!

Of course what is a trip to the snow without building a snowman?

Yeah I no everyone does it and nowdays its considered a little bit wankie,

but what the heck.

Erap to block GMA bid for prime minister

MANILA, Philippines – Former President Joseph Estrada vowed yesterday to run for congressman of San Juan to block President Arroyo’s bid to become prime minister should her House allies succeed in establishing a parliamentary form of government through a constituent assembly.
“I can also easily run for Congress in San Juan to ensure that President Arroyo does not become prime minister,” Estrada said.
Administration officials are expected to contest Estrada’s congressional bid by claiming that he is barred from public office under the terms of the presidential pardon granted by Mrs. Arroyo.
The Sandiganbayan convicted Estrada of plunder but he was pardoned a month after his conviction in 2007. Estrada said he regained his political rights after his pardon.
This developed as gmanews.tv reported that the President’s eldest son Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo had hinted at running for governor of Pampanga. This could pave the way for his mother to replace him as the representative of Pampanga’s second district.
“If I follow my heart, I want a third term. But of course I won’t deny the fact that many of the political leaders there, even the clergy and those supporting, who support (Pampanga) Gov. (Ed) Panlilio, are egging me on to run because he’s a non-performing asset,” Mikey Arroyo told gmanews.tv.
It was United Opposition president and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay who first raised the scenario of Mrs. Arroyo running for a congressional seat in Pampanga in preparation for the establishment of a parliamentary system of government where she can emerge as prime minister.
“President Arroyo may opt to run for Congress to make herself House speaker, then prime minister,” Binay said.
Panlilio earlier said that Mrs. Arroyo had been visiting the second district of Pampanga in the past weeks apparently on unofficial campaign sorties.
“She’s the only president who has made 16 visits to Pampanga for four months, fourteen of which were done in the second district which includes, among others, Porac and Guagua,” Panlilio said. “She is eyeing the prime ministership. Street concreting and construction of covered courts are being made in Pampanga.”
“Becoming a congresswoman, then House speaker and then prime minister is one of her options in her desire to stay in power,” Panlilio said.
“The message here is still to stop con-ass or Cha-cha in any form. This is just to show that the idea of President Arroyo running for Congress to keep herself in power forever is an audacious if not a ridiculous idea,” Estrada spokesperson Margaux Salcedo said.
“If the administration insists on keeping Mrs. Arroyo in power beyond 2010 by a change to a parliamentary system of government and by making Mrs. Arroyo prime minister, they can be certain that the opposition is ready to counter their actions to ensure that she does not hold on to power forever,” Salcedo said.
Mikey Arroyo said he was preparing for his election bid.
Asked whether he would seek a gubernatorial post or a congressional seat, Mikey merely repeated, “election bid.”
President Arroyo currently has four relatives in the House of Representatives: Mikey, 40, on his second term as representative of Pampanga’s second district; another son Diosdado Macapagal Arroyo, 34 on his first term as representative of Camarines Sur’s 1st district; Ignacio Arroyo, 58, brother-in-law, on his second term as representative of Negros Occidental’s 5th district; and Ma. Lourdes T. Arroyo, sister-in-law, on her first term as representative of Kasangga party-list
In his interview with gmanews.tv, Mikey refused to call themselves a dynasty, saying a dynasty only exists if a number of family members get elected in one geographic area.
“We win, what can we do, my God. And we win in different places... so we are not a dynasty,” he said in Filipino.

Coming Soon - 25 Days Of Trip In A Photographic Report!

Howdee viewers, got back from our surprise trip to the Philippine yesterday.
Despite fighting the endless urge to go back and nearly giving in to the growing tide of futile worthlessness that comes with being back in Australia, I am going to endeavour to do an extended trip report on the holiday and where we got to.
Cheap airfares, only $645, lead us to a last minute decision to book the trip and rack royally off from Australian shores and do many of the things
I have wanted to do for so long.
While the main reason for the trip was family and society based,
I found a whole lot more.
I was again able to re-experience the 'REAL' Filipino, the reason they mean so much to me. I was able to revive my decaying interest in the country through the efforts of now deceased scum in our local community and, best of all, I made a huge number of great new friends there.
Join me in coming weeks as I cover the trip, what we did and share photos taken during it.
A great time was had, as is usually the case, and my enthusiasm not dampened despite the best efforts of 'Philippine Airlines' and cowboy
security guards.

One hopes you have been enjoying comedy month which, still has two weeks to run.
I have been enjoying some time out from everyday life to seek a fresh new breeze and remedy the crap of recent times.
Many have helped in this process to find new resolve, new reason to carry on.
Most importantly they have shown me the way to understand that those liars of the Filipino community in the Botany Bay area, do it due to severe deficiencies in their own life.
That those you once thought were important and turned out to be otherwise, were merely people who failed the test of friendship.
At 4pm yesterday we conducted a funeral and burial service to discard this past EVIL.

Every now and then we find ourselves at a crossroads, a point along ones journey when you are just not happy with the way things are, the way things are going, or perhaps just sick of a life that is pretty much the same day in and day out.

While some people live for the idea of being better than the next, striving for the PERCIEVED CREDIBILITY while having their face laughed at, pushing day in and day out to make life better than that which they left behind.
Others just wish to step back enjoy what time they have and watch these stupid people whos whole life is based on my (insert: job/pay/life/sex) is better than your (insert: same as before).

Sadly for these minions of life who feel I should be otherwise, I don't feel an urgent need to live up to the expectations society places upon me. I don't give a chicken balut if you earn $5000 a week and me just $500 and I don't care if you fel that you have made it in this world.

If we all stop for one monent and think about it - Life is a joke. A pathetic and stupendously stupid joke.
You work your arses off, you achieve as much financial gain as possible and then you drop dead and rot away into maggot food. All the while not really enjoying those hours and hours, days and days, weeks and weeks, months and months, years and years, you spent slogging it out for a company that dosen't give a shit about you, for a stack of money and posessions you can't take into that wooden box with you anyway.

HOW BLOODY POINTLESS IS THIS?

In 14 days I will be facing some major life changes, whether these turn out good or bad I don't really give a toss.
All I want to do is get to Vietnam this year and thats my only goal.
But if I don't reach it - who gives a toss - as long as I enjoy myself along the way.

1923 - 2009

Woke this morning to the very sad news that Charles Tingwell had passed away this morning from postate cancer.
It is through his later work in Aussie comedy that I have got to experience this great actor and this tribute looks at bits and pieces of this.
Australia has lost another great person :-(

Early life and military service

Tingwell was born in Coogee, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; as an adolescent, he was encouraged by his father to be an accountant, but failed the entrance exam. He found work as a junior radio announcer at Sydney radio station 2CH in 1941 but not long after volunteered for Royal Australian Air Force.

He trained as a pilot in Canada during 1942 under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Despite damaging a Harvard trainer in August 1942, he qualified as a Pilot Officer in December 1942. He served with No.74 Operational Conversion Unit in British Palestine and qualified to fly the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire. He was posted to No. 680 Squadron RAF and flew 75 photo-reconnaissance sorties in Hurricanes and Spitfires during the North African Campaign. He was also type qualified on the Bristol Blenheim, Martin Baltimore, Bristol Beaufighter, de Havilland Mosquito and Airspeed Oxford. He was promoted to Flying Officer in June 1943 and Flight Lieutenant in December 1944.^[10] On demobilisation in 1946 he was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star and Defence Medal. He remained a reservist into the 1950s.

After returning to Australia, he married his childhood sweetheart, Audrey. He also began to seriously consider a career in film, which had been a passion of his before the war.

Acting career

In 1946, Tingwell won his first film role, as a control tower officer in the film Smithy. He took on several roles over the next few years, increasing in stature, until he caught the attention of Hollywood in 1952, and won the part of Lt. Harry Carstairs in the film The Desert Rats, alongside Chips Rafferty, James Mason and Richard Burton.

After filming The Desert Rats, Tingwell stayed in Australia for three years, making three films, including King of the Coral Sea, which also featured Rafferty. In 1956, Tingwell moved to England. The following year, he took on his first recurring television role, playing Australian surgeon Alan Dawson in the live television serial Emergency - Ward 10. He also won the role of Inspector Craddock in all four films of the Miss Marple film series starring Margaret Rutherford, between 1961 and 1964.

In the later 1960s, he performed various minor voice roles for the Gerry Anderson shows Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet as well as appearing in the first series of cult television show Catweazle.

Tingwell made numerous other films while in England, spending a total of 16 years as a 'London Aussie' ^[11] , but in 1973, returned to Australia with his wife and children, and soon after, won the role of Inspector Reg Lawson on the long-running series Homicide. This was followed by small roles in a number of major Australian films, such as Breaker Morant, Puberty Blues and All The Rivers Run.

His career went through a quiet period throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, until he took on the role of a grandfather in a recurring segment for the satirical series The Late Show in 1993. He was awarded the prestigious Gold Logie Hall of Fame award in 1994. His role in The Late Show was later to win him a major role as lawyer Lawrence Hammill in the major 1997 film The Castle. He later said that this role helped him recover from the death of his wife not long before.

After the success of The Castle, Tingwell's career underwent a revival during the late 1990s and early 2000s. This saw him take on small roles in commercial films The Craic and The Dish, the mini-series Changi, as well as the lead in the romance Innocence.

Tingwell also had a recurring guest role in the soap opera Neighbours in 2000 and 2003, playing "Henry O'Rourke".

'Bud' Tingwell appeared as "John Conroy" in the musical theatre production The Man from Snowy River: Arena Spectacular, which toured Australian capital cities twice during 2002.

In 2006 Bud successfully launched his own website with over 500 registered users in just over a week. On 5 October 2006 he launched his first blog. Bud encouraged fans to visit the site and share their thoughts on his life and career.

Until his death, Tingwell was still acting regularly, alternating between theatre, film and television. Most recently, he has hosted ratings winners Celebrity Circus, and 20 to 1. He appeared on a Celebrity special of Temptation with his daughter Virginia. Just before his death, he was acting in a number of television programs and films which are in-production.

~~ KATE AND LEO-BOY RETURN TO TITANIC ~~

Many are surprised to learn I have more hobbies than just railways, or 'Thomas The Tank Engine' as the aswang like to so childishly put it.

I have long has a fetish for the Titanic as well, the famous ship that sunk in 1912, causing a huge loss of life, the numbers of which I don't think have been beaten to this day.

The story of the Titanic, truth or otherwise, has been told many, MANY times in books, television and on the big screen.
Quite possibly the best book version was written by a school teacher, the name of whom escapes me, who was on the Titanic that fateful night and became one of the lucky few survivors.

The best movie however, if you can ignore the bollocks of Kate Winslet (though it is hard to ignore that breastical shot) and prise twat Leonardo, was the blockbuster 'TITANIC' from a couple of years ago.
While all the Jack and, 'whats her name' stuff is pure fictional bollocks and there is no huge gem dumped in the ocean by the much older whats her name, everything that went on around them seems to have been researched very well and gives a true depiction of it all, right down to the little kid playing with the top.

Recently I was talking to one of the readers of this site about the Titanic and if anyone still survives.
I have since found out that the last survivor still breaths in the UK, having been 2 months old at the time of the disaster.

The last survivor, Millvina Dean, who is struggling to pay the fees of a nursing home she has been in since breaking her hip around three years ago, has found help in the Kate and Leo, who have thrown their support behind a fund to help pay her fees.

This is such wonderful news and certainly puts these actors in a new light for me, because Millvina Dean would have to be a true worldwide historical treasure.

Lets all hope she has many years ahead.

Hello there, I am a photo of popular Serbian funnyman Damir and as such do not pretend to be the actual real person.

Having recently won first prize in the 'Bronwyn Bishop Comedy Awards' and recieving top marks in the 'John Howard Comedy College', I was asked to host this years 'Manila Downunder June Jokefest'.
It is an incredible honour for any photo and I shall do my best to bring you the funniest jokes from around the world, even more funny than my chicken joke above - yes that funny.

In a world where human vermin spread gossip, people can be locked up for threatening government officials and taxi drivers are allowed to roam freely, I think we need to take out time for a good laugh.

A NEW TOY

Hope Rachel Cabanossi dosen't report me to Centerlink for payment fraud, I mean, how can one go getting a new camera on all those Centerlink handouts. Surely there must be some fraud going on.

OK, I suppose it is my turn to prove myself a hypocrite as well. I have said for quite some time that I would be sticking to film only and not going down the digital SLR path. Besides, I don't like the quality of digital, it is to sharp, I don't like the idea of your important images being stored electronically, film cameras are far more rugged and, well quite frankly, I don't particularly like change all that much.
Regardless of this, I went out and got myself a EOS 1000D. Not the top of the range camera, but it is no piece of bollocks either. The last few months of saving up those dole cheques has really been beneficial and I look forward to experimenting with it between now and the time I reach my much anticipated end of existence.
Like the Fuji contraption before it, this is going to take some getting use to. However Canon, unlike many people, will not usually let you down.

I took the opportunity early this morning to head down to the airport and give it a bit of a test run. If I am to take it to Vietnam this year (god bless dole cheques) I want to be ready to give it the thrashing of its life.
The Fuji was about to pack it in on my last ever trip to the Philippines in 2007, but it held it together. The Canon has big shoes to fill.

Anyway the following collection were taken early this morning. Feel free to email me any comments on the shots as I strive to get better at aviation photography.

Air New Zealand takes off from the third runway and immediately banks to the east and, well not surprisingly, New Zealand.

Now normally I hate security guards almost as much as I hate human vermin, however this poor bastard had to slowly push this car from one end of the runway to the other.
Despite this - he was still friendly to me when he passed.
Wanted to help, but passing the fence would get me shot nowdays.

Virgins everywhere.
One is leaving while another arrives.
Waited bloody ages to try to get this sort of shot which is occasionally seen in such good reads as 'Aviation Australia'.

Mascot residents see the black smoke all the time, most wondering where the hell it is coming from.
Now you know - they practise putting out fires between the bay and third runways.

I usually don't photograph anything Philippine related nowdays, it is a topic that really turns me off at the moment. However I saw a plane approaching Qantas Drive and by the time I saw who owned it, I had already got out of the car.
So what the heck! As it turned out, it was one I needed anyway.

The A380 is admitedly impressive, but for all round style, grace and beauty, I still think Boeing's 747 dumps a steamy one all over the Airbus product.
It will indeed be a sad day that they stop building these beautiful birds.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed these few shots from the new camera.

RAMPANT HYPOCRISY - IMMENSE STUPIDITY

Hello and welcome to another Tanduay fueled moment of truth and reality on Manila Downunder, Australia's most controversial Filipino website. Brought to you by Tanduay, KFC and the fact the asawa is at a Filipino party.
"Oh heck"! Yes I can hear the collective groans from those feeling a little guilty that I may be aiming at them, those who are worried that I may reveal more than is good for them, or perhaps just go the full chunder on everyone.

RELAX- I am not aiming this at anyone. I am just giving a broad 'personal' observation on things that have become seemingly commonplace in the south eastern Sydney Filo community. Attitudes that can be quite amusing, if not significantly sad, from an outsiders point of view.

CREDIBILITY! It is something that most of this little community strive to have, but something that can never really be achieved, when hypocrisy, backstabbing and gossip form the basis of so many friendships, no, not friendships, I don't think such things do exist, not in the true Aussie meaning of friendship, perhaps acquaintances is a better term.
It would seem that the person with the least credibility can be identified easily, they usually being the one who says they have this regularity. You can guarantee following such statement, they will be off to the local Filo shop with gossip, or perhaps hanging out with friends who's morals, not 4 weeks before, were not something their credibility could tolerate.

As someone who now watches from the sidelines, I am often amused, yeah, hmmmm I think amused is the word, by the endless hypocrisy that consumes the local Filo society.
One of the best is those who hate someone, showing an ultra friendly attitude towards them and attending their parties.
This is an extremely common going on and leads you to wonder who really is your friend. I mean, if someone sees really genuinely glad to see you, is this the case, or are they just faking it to later go on and back stab you.
Yes you may laugh, but it is very, VERY common. How well do you know those who make you feel you are friends.

Another particularly good one is the accusing someone of something that isn't true, but in secret, they are doing the exact same thing.
For example, blaming someone of bludging money - when they themselves can't get by and have to make huge loans of friends and family members.

One sec - must obtain another Tanduay!!

OK, OK, now its time for my favourite act of hypocrisy.
People in the community will go around, stab you in the back, gossip about you, spread lies and the like, but then appear horrified that you would have the gaul to stand up to them. Its like the end of the world, that you would take a swipe at their credibility , or lack thereof, at their ego, at their standing.
They truly have such high opinions of themselves,that they just can't comprehend those people, those lesser and inferior people, standing up to them.

GOD - GIVE ME STRENGTH!

I'm sorry, but I am not interested in that bullshit.
Stand up and have some guts! If you don't like someone, don't hide it, have the guts to show it.
If you have a problem with a friend, don't give bullshit excuses, don't go whinging to someone else. BLOODY GO AND TALK TO THE PERSON IN QUESTION!

What sort of wankers do we make ourselves and our fellow community look like with such excessive stupidity and carrying on.
Its time to wake up, treat each other with the respect (or lack of) that each of us deserves and have the GUTS TO ACCEPT THE BULLSHIT YOU HAVE CAUSED and not cry off with lies to others because you have been struck back at.

I hear that suffocating yourself with gas fumes in your car is a pretty easy way to go. What about death by cop? But I might go for drowning since that's what Virginia Woolf did I really like her. Gun to the head would mean a lot of gruesome for some one to stumble upon. Hanging can talk awhile if you don't do it right. Slit wrists, depends on how you do it. Even if you do it right you still have to wait to die. Drug and medication overdose can take awhile and be painful. Burned alive is just masochistic. Jumping I couldn't dare do. I'd have to hire some one to push me. I think I'd go for the gas fumes.

I would drive about 100 miles per hour and drive straight into a gas hauling big rig with no seat belt, or i could just unhook my emergency trailer lines and slam on the brakes and jack knife my trailer until it snaps off on a steep curve and roll to my death but that is painful and i might survive in a wheel chair on life support

Matter of Taste

I have now been in this country for over six years, and consider myself in most respects well-assimilated. However, there is one key step on the road to full assimilation which I have yet to take,and that's to eat BALUT.

The day any of you sees me eating balut, please call immigration and ask them to issue me a Filipino passport, because at that point there will be no turning back. BALUT, for those still blissfully ignorant non-Pinoys out there, is a fertilized duck egg. It is commonly sold with salt in a piece of newspaper, much like English fish and chips, by street vendors usually after dark, presumably so you can't see how gross it is.

It's meant to be an aphrodisiac, although I can't imagine anything more likely to dispel sexual desire than crunching on a partially-formed baby duck swimming in noxious fluid. The embryo in the egg comes in varying stages of development, but basically it is not considered macho to eat one without fully discernable feathers, beak, and claws. Some say these crunchy bits are the best.

Others prefer just to drink the so-called 'soup', the vile, pungent liquid that

surrounds the aforementioned feathery fetus...excuse me, I have to go and throw up now. I'll be back in a minute.

Food dominates the life of the Filipino. People here just love to eat. They eat at least eight times a day. These eight official meals are called, in order: breakfast, snacks, lunch, merienda, pica-pica, pulutan, dinner, and

no-one-saw-me-take-that-cookie-from-the-fridge-so-it-doesn't-count.

The short gaps in between these mealtimes are spent eating Sky Flakes from the open packet that sits on every desktop.

You're never far from food in the Philippines. If you doubt this, next time you're driving home from work, try this game. See how long you can drive without seeing food and I don't mean a distant restaurant, or a picture of food. I mean a man on the

sidewalk frying fish balls, or a man walking through the traffic selling nuts or candy. I bet it's less than one minute.

Here are some other things I've noticed about food in the Philippines.

Firstly, a meal is not a meal without rice-even breakfast. In the UK, I could go a whole year without eating rice. Second, it's impossible to drink without eating. A bottle of San Miguel just isn't the same without gambas or beef tapa. Third, no one ventures more than two paces from their house without baon and a container of something cold to drink.

You might as well ask a Filipino to leave home without his pants on. And lastly, where I come from, you eat with a knife and fork. Here, you eat with a spoon and fork. You try eating rice swimming in fish sauce with a knife.

One really nice thing about Filipino food culture is that people always ask you to SHARE their food. In my office, if you catch anyone attacking their baon, they will always go, "Sir! KAIN TAYO!" ("Let's eat!"). This confused me, until I realized that they didn't actually expect me to sit down and start munching on their boneless bangus.

In fact, the polite response is something like, "No thanks, I just ate." But the principle is sound if you have food on your plate you are expected to share it, however hungry you are, with those who may be even hungrier.

I think that's great. In fact, this is frequently even taken one step further.

Many Filipinos use "Have you eaten yet?" ("KUMAIN KA NA?") as a general greeting, irrespective of time of day or location.

Some foreigners think Filipino food is fairly dull compared to other Asian cuisines. Actually lots of it is very good: Spicy dishes like Bicol Express (strange, a dish named after a train); anything cooked with coconut milk; anything KINILAW; and anything ADOBO. And it's hard to beat the sheer wanton, cholesterholic frenzy of a good old-fashioned LECHON de leche feast.

Dig a pit, light a fire, add 50 pounds of animal fat on a stick, and cook until crisp. Mmm, mmm... you can actually feel your arteries constricting with each successive mouthful.

I also share one key Pinoy trait ---a sweet tooth!! I am thus theonly foreigner I know who does not complain about sweet bread, sweet burgers, sweet spaghetti, sweet banana ketchup, and so on. I am a man who likes to put jam on his pizza. Try it! It's the weird food you want to avoid.

In addition to duck fetus in the half-shell, items to avoid in the Philippines include pig's blood soup (DINUGUAN);

bull's testicle soup,the strangely-named "SOUP NUMBER FIVE" (I dread to

think what numbers one to four are); and the ubiquitous, stinky shrimp paste, BAGOONG, and it's equally stinky sister, PATIS. Filipinos are so addicted to these

latter items that they will even risk arrest or deportation trying to smuggle them into countries like Australia and the USA, which wisely ban the importation of items you can smell from more than 100 paces.

Then there's the small matter of the blue ice cream. I have never been able to get my brain around eating blue food; the ubiquitous UBE leaves ube cold.

And lastly on the subject of weird food, beware: that KALDERETANG KAMBING (goat) could well be KALDERETANG ASO (dog)...

The Filipino, of course, has a well-developed sense of food. Here's a typical Pinoy food joke: "I'm on a seafood diet"!

"What's a seafood diet?"

"When I see food, I eat it!"

Filipinos also eat strange bits of animals, the feet, the head, the guts, etc., usually barbecued on a stick. These have been given witty names, like "ADIDAS"

(chicken's feet); "KURBATA" (either just chicken's neck, or "neck and thigh" as in

"neck-tie"); "WALKMAN" (pigs ears); "PAL" (chicken wings); "HELMET" (chicken

head); "IUD" (chicken intestines), and BETAMAX" (video-cassette-like

blocks of animal blood).

After our visit to the Star Wars exhibition we decided to meet up with my hornbag cousins Riza and Reizel for a look through the famous Paddys, as well as a look at the local hornbag wildlife, of which there is much.

~~ RANTINGS OF A BORING WET NIGHT ~~

Hi all, am sitting here watching television as the rain pours down and lighting flashes outside.
The telvision show is reasonably boring, but saved by the lucious appearance of lead hornbag Kim Chiu, who, lets face it, would even make Neighbours watchable.

I really don't have much to place on here, well thats photographically prepared anyway, but I do feel like dribbling on. So I hope readers will bear with me as I talk about whatever I manage to think up in the next few minutes.

As many would know, I have recently found Facebook. Not bad really and I suppose I should tak back all the negative things I have said about these sites. I have found early school friends, current friends, some Filo family and even some of those very few Filos I still see in our community here.
It is the time waster I have always said, but it is an enjoyable timewaster :-)

But not all has been good, after a pleasurable two months I had to endure an encounter on Thursday with one of the human vermin. I had thought my life was finally rid of them, that the pest exterminators had been in, but alas one was cruising Mascot in the afternoon.
Despite numerous tins of Salvital, I find my stomach is still turning at the vile experience.

With the Philippines now out of any plans for the next decade, am hopeful of raising enough money to hit Vietnam late in the year. As a Centerlink bludger (according to the aswang) one must have to save a long time to go on these trips.
I wonder if they can get me killed there as well?
Have long dreamed of going to Vietnam, to travel the Reunification Express, to visit the rural areas and, of course, to photograph some hornbags (hey Colonel ;-) )

Wow it is pissing down rain outside now. No doubt the back yard be flooded again. Supposre this will result in having to mow the lawn again next weekend.

Sadly plans to head to Gosford to farewell my maganda cousin Reizel have fallen through, so I think we are headed to BKK Eastlakes (have already packed the garlic and crucifixes) to spend some pera and have some seafood.
Going to miss ya Reizel, but will see you again one day.

Sorry if I am rambling, have had a couple of the golden product in an effort to put up with the TFC. Anyway, one must be off, have marami work to do on the websites.

~~ STAR WARS - EPISODE 2 ~~

Hi all and welcome back to the second riviting installment in the Star Wars trilogy, well my version of it anyway.

Oh and while we are on the subject of sci-fi, not many more sleeps until the next

STAR TREK MOVIE!!!!

Woohoo, am going to be one of the first in to see that. It has been recieving positive ratings by the critics and reporters far in excess of those usually gained by an upcoming Trek movie, so this looks like being a good one.
Hopefully it will lead to saving the franchise which has been a little down of late.

Anyway back to the reason we are here, Star Wars and hornbags!!!

A Sandcrawler as seen in the first movie made, which was the fourth in the series. Yes rather a strange way to do things, but thems the breaks.

~~ STAR WARS - EPISODE 1 ~~

Well part 1 anyway.
Given I am actually sitting here growing steadily more sick and trying to put together around 10 postings to automatically show over the next few weeks, I really don't have much witty to say.

As mentioned earlier - we took the kids and Brock's friend Eric to see the Star Wars exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum over the school holidays. While I am a confirmed Trekkie, I do have to admit to a certain tingling in the panties at the thought of seeing these things in real life.

Please join us for a look at this great display, one that is supposed to close shortly, possibly by the time this post is scheduled to show.
Part two will follow in two days and show the balance of this show.

Star Trek is certainly popular with the hornbags, this one showing up around the same time as us.

This hornbag was walking away from the Powerhouse Museum, so likely had next to no Star Wars interest.
Still we shall forgive her, on account of her being cute.

Hello one and all. There has been endless stories going around about both me and this website, indeed the website has yet again been accused of causing trouble for members of my old barkada.

Starting with the website, someone has been lying to a non-internet using friend about things I have been placing on this site, accusing me of making mention of her in a personal comment about laws in this country and how one can get themselves in jail.
I intend to find out who the person was who lied about me and whether it was yet another act to get rid of me, or just a case of being illiterate.
Either way it is untrue and the proof will be shared with them shortly.

PHONECALLS

Seems someone else is getting stupid TXT messages and phone calls at all hours and of course the Brad name was brought up as 'ONE' of the possible suspects even though it isn't his phone number.
I know who it is, they have successfully had me removed from the barkada and now that I have dumped the mobile phone service they are on to someone else. They are only trying to destroy this personas friendship like they did mine.
Another percieved easy target to break up the group a little more.
Again it wasn't me - perhaps go to the police and report it. This sort of harrasment will see them trace it, I mean, if they can be bothered doing anything at all. I suggest Mascot police, its all to hard for Maroubra.

Yes they were successful with removing me from the picture - but Hippos have a very loooooooong memory and every dog has its day!

This morning I recieved an email on the old GSpot_Barkada email address. The sender has asked not to have their identity, ahhhmm, identified (is that bad english?) here on the site if I use it.
It simply read (well excepting the name, a bit of english correction and the bit about identifying them)

I am sorry you feel that this is the case.
Please don't mistake my being forced into a position where I can't see people with my dislike of Filipino people.
I actually love Filipino people - they can be the nicest people you can meet - sadly they can also be the worst.

I am sadly limited on what I can say because, "I may upset people with truth" apparently (plus I have had to make certain promises), but suffice to say it isn't me who doesn't like them, it is them who don't like me, or more correctly, can't tolerate the cultural differences I carry.
This is totally understandable and I, while hurting, will learn to live with it eventually.

Like I said to someone during a chat last night, I know I have changed in my attitude, I feel I have been put through a mincer, chewed up and spat out by many in the community. This has left me tired, worn out, suffering much depression and very disillusioned by them.
Indeed if anyone finds me cold towards them personally, there must be a reason. I don't turn cold towards my beloved Filipino friends for no reason whatsoever.

In closing, I would like to point out that I am busy trying to find more new Filipino friends. If I didn't like them, this would be a rather STUPID course of action.
I'm not racing it though, its not as if I'M INVITING COMPLETE STRANGERS FROM FILIPINO SHOPS TO GO OUT WITH ME.

Arthur, a longtime stage actress whose comic timing and deadpan delivery were a perfect fit for her sharp-tongued roles on the two series, died of cancer at her Los Angeles home, celebrity website TMZ reported.

Representatives for the actress, who won best-actress Emmys -- America's top television award -- for "Maude" and "Golden Girls," could not immediately be reached for comment.

"Thirty-seven years ago she showed me how to be very brave in playing comedy," one of Arthur's co-stars, Rue McClanahan, told TMZ in a statement. "I'll miss that courage and I'll miss that voice."

Born Beatrice Frankel in New York on May 13, 1922, Arthur began performing in college and appeared in Broadway and off-Broadway roles, winning a Tony Award opposite Angela Lansbury in "Mame."

In the early 1970s, Arthur appeared on the groundbreaking television comedy "All in the Family" as Edith Bunker's fiercely liberal cousin Maude. Producers who saw gold in the role quickly devised a spinoff for the character.

"Maude" debuted on CBS in 1972 and became one of the top-rated sitcoms on U.S. television during its six-year run.

In a two-part episode that aired in November 1972, the show stirred protest and controversy when Maude decided to have an abortion because of her age. The procedure was legal in New York state, where the show was set, but not nationwide.

Two months later, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion in its landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

Arthur followed with "Golden Girls," an unlikely hit from 1985 to 1992 that featured four female retirees living together.

NINETY per cent of Philippine police cannot shoot straight or clean their guns properly, according to recent firearms proficiency tests, an official said.
"Of the country's 125,000 policemen and women 90 per cent cannot shoot straight and have difficulty just taking care of their guns," National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Commissioner Luis Mario General said.
Commissioner General, whose agency monitors the national police, said that of the remaining 10 per cent most of them ranked barely above the level of "novice". He said his commission would recommend to the Philippine National Police that it conducts regular marksmanship training for all its members, including the top brass.
"We will recommend to the police that they take this matter very seriously because their policemen could either be killed in the field or could shoot innocent civilians," said Commissioner General.
However, he said he could not blame the police for their failing marksmanship grades, because of the high cost of marksmanship training and especially bullets.
He also cited recent admissions by top police officials that almost 50 per cent of the national police actually have no service firearms.

Story About Getting Even

One December day we found an old straggly cat at our door. She was a sorry sight. Starving, dirty, smelled terrible, skinny, and hair all matted down.
We felt sorry for her so we put her in a carrier and took her to the vet. We didn't know what to call her so we named her 'Pussycat.'

The vet decided to keep her for a day or so. He said he would let us know when we could come and get her.
My husband (the complainer) said, 'OK, but don't forget to wash her, she stinks.' He reminded the vet that it was his WIFE (me) that wanted the dirty cat, not him.

My husband and my Vet don't see eye to eye.
The vet calls my husband 'El-Cheap-O', and my husband calls the vet 'El-Charge-O'.

They love to hate each other and constantly 'snipe' at one another, with my husband getting in the last word on this particular occasion.

The next day my husband had an appointment with his doctor, who is located in the same building, next door to the vet. The MD's waiting room and office was full of people waiting to see the doctor.

A side door opened and the vet leaned in - he had obviously seen my husband arrive. He looked straight at my husband and in a loud voice said, 'Your wife's pussy doesn't stink any more. We washed and shaved it, and now she smells like a rose. Oh, and, by the way, I think she's pregnant. God only knows who the father is!' Then he closed the door.
Now THAT, my friends, is getting even!

Its not hard to tell that I am having some great fun designing things
on the computer of late.
Yesterdays trip to the Star Wars exhibition has given me many ideas, many of which I shall share the results of on here as time goes by.
The seeing in real life the actual costumes and props used was quite a buzz, the ship models have to be seen to be believed. Makes me even more interested in going to see the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas.
Surely it is time for a Battlestar Galactica Experience :-)

Such a terrific idea, I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier.
Send the kids to work, loan $5000 off of them and then go around making out your well off and have a terrific job. Sure it would make you a hypocrite, but nobody would really know the truth and in certain communities, nobody really cares for it anyway.

We recently answered advertisements for mine workers at Mungo Colliery and thankfully we were successful in getting them.
Now I can sit back, make like I am loaded and have the best job in the world, while posting to the internet all day.

~~ A SPADGE RESIGNATION ~~

Hi all, effective immediately I have resigned my post as President of the Philippine heritage society, Australian chapter.

At tonights meeting Bill will be moved to Acting President until new elections can be held. All group memberships, money raised, correspondence will be passed on to Bill tonight and my membership voluntarily terminated with no reimbursement.

Developments today between myself and a dear community friend has lead me to a decision I have been stressing over for a few months.
The personal fight between wanting to do something for the Philippines and my great desire to just give it all up as a useless cause for people who, at least out here, don't care less.

The fracturing of those who were my rocks in the community has helped me with my decision and I wish the guys all the very best with the society's future endeavours - I am sure we will all remain friends regardless.

This remained my main stumbling block to removing myself from any Philippine involvement in my life, this final decision now clears the way for me to return to things I did up until 10 years ago.

I do thank those in the community who have helped the project during our friendship and my time on the board.
The Philippines was once my oasis from every day life, it is now just a reminder of the pain one can have inflicted upon them.

It should be noted that, at least for now, the mail and email addresses will remain the same and all correspondence and donations will go direct to the new team.
